UMW September Minutes

The General UMW met Sept. 7 at 6 p.m. for a carry in supper hosted by Abigail circle.  Summer camper’s reports were shared from Preston Kelley, Preston Stoeger and Calvin Stoeger.  The meeting was called to order by reciting the purpose.  Joys and concerns were shared and Janet opened the meeting with prayer.  Roll Call showed:  Abigail 2, Elizabeth 5, Ruth 7, Eve 0, 1 guest, and 1 member at large.  Minutes of the last meeting were read and approved as read.  Treasurer report from Pat Young shows a balance of $7,033.57.  Deposits over the summer were $7,218.63 and expenses were $2,942.86. We had a profit of $2,027.05 for the rummage sale this summer.  We also took in $939.68 and served over 200 people for the Ice Cream Social but still have a few bills to pay.

Thank you notes were shared from Sandy Billings, Hugh Wilbur and family, Susan Andresen and Midwest Distribution for the UMCOR postage money that we sent.

Sandy Billings shared a devotion from the Jesus Calling Devotion booklet on “Come to Me all you who are weary and heavy laden and I will give you rest”.

Eileen Beman brought several items for the UMCOR Health kits for people to take and complete and return to the church.  She and Pat Young clarified with Epworth Village that they WILL continue to accept the soup labels as well as the Box Top for Education so if you have some on hand please put them in the large container in the church kitchen and continue to save them.

Pat is the Chair for funeral dinners this month but is in need of a co-chair, so please give her a call if you can help out.

There is a need still for ushers in November as well as scripture readers and greeters.  Sign up in the Narthex.

Grandparent’s day will be celebrated this Sunday, Sept. 11.  Lila will get a copy of what we say when we hand out the Corsage for Missions to the grandparents. Amber Deeds will have the kids help her during the first service and Sandy Billings will have kids help her during the second service.

UMW District meeting will be here Oct. 1.  The officers will arrive Friday, Sept. 30, and we will provide a light supper for 10-15 women around 6 p.m.  Registration Saturday is from 8:30-9 a.m. We provide coffee and rolls.  We then provide lunch for 50-60 women.  A committee of Pat, Janet, Lila, Jerean and Cherry will get together to plan the details and inform the circles what we need. Those attending will pay $8 for the noon lunch.

Coffee/Juice for September is Abigail circle and Ruth for October.  Eve circle is scheduled to do the kitchen clean up in October and Janet will check with them.

The next UMW meeting will be Oct. 5 at 7 p.m. with Ruth being our hostess and the program will be “Women at Work” from a Call to Prayer and Self Denial.

Don’t forget to check out the greeting card selection in the narthex as well as our Helpful Hints book, knives and brooms that are still available.
